Father-daughter story in director Shouruv’s film Hi Nanna

The narrative of a father and his daughter is told in debut director Shouryuv’s Hi Nanna, which stars Nani, Mrunal Thakur, and Kiara Khanna in the key roles and Jayaram, Priyadarshi, and Angad Bedi in supporting ones. The audience saw Animal, a graphic story that explored a father’s bond with his son, last week.

In contrast, this week’s gift feels like a healing balm for the soul. The main characters in this story are Viraj (Nani), a photographer and single parent whose life centers around his six-year-old daughter Mahi (Kiara Khanna), her grandfather Jayaram, and their dog Pluto. As a single father, he spends his days taking pictures of models and his evenings taking care of the house and his daughter.

She is inquisitive about her mother, but her father avoids the subject and won’t give her the whole story. Mahi meets Yashna (Mrunal Thakur) one day, and she encourages Viraj to share his story with them. However, what transpires is not what either of them had anticipated. The two hours and thirty-five-minute film by Shouryuv is not for the impatient.

Look elsewhere if you’re searching for a narrative that moves quickly or is traditionally amusing and features battles, overly dramatic scenes, sporadic upbeat music, etc. However, this one’s for you if you can’t resist an intense love story that builds its characters slowly and moves at a leisurely pace to allow you to lose yourself in its world.

Of course, you might have predicted a few of the “twists” the Hi Nanna movie would give you. Nevertheless, it is nevertheless a compelling journey because of the way Shouryuv presents the tale. The performances of Nani, Mrunal, and Kiara are crucial to the plot, and you can’t help but cheer for them.

As Viraj, a lone father trying to defend his daughter in the face of overwhelming adversity, Nani is perfect. It’s difficult not to recognize your father in the character if you have a loving relationship with him. Kiara is very cute, and she plays the part so well. She even gives strong performances at a few of the film’s poignant scenes.

At the center of Hi Nanna is Mrunal. She gets to play a complex, non-ordinary character that makes us want to love her even in her worst times. Not only is Priyadarshi amusing, but the dog that played Pluto is just too cute. The majority of Hi Nanna was filmed in Mumbai, Goa, and Coonoor, which produced some stunning, romantic shots.

Shouryuv creates an excellent first impression and demonstrates his expertise. Both Sanu Varghese’s photography and Hesham Abdul Wahab’s soundtrack are delightful. The songs blend in nicely with the story and can even enhance the events, although they may not be tunes you want to listen to again and again.

Even though Shouryuv adds his own touches to these beats, Viraj’s tale still feels forced. The second half is heavier because of a revelation that occurs prior to the break. Even some inebriated comedy is included in an attempt to lighten the mood from the overall gravity, but it fails. But because the film Hi Nanna heart is in the right place, the resolution more than makes up for it. It’s also not a spoiler to say that Pluto, Yashna, Mahi, and Viraj end up just where they should have all along!

Odiyamma, featuring a cameo by Shruti Haasan, is the only song that looks out of place and superfluous, making the film drag on. Perhaps Hi Nanna isn’t Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, as Shouryuv hinted. However, some of the main themes in Hi Nanna will seem familiar to you if you’ve watched romantic dramas like Definitely, Maybe, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, or The Notebook.
