Prashant Kishor Steps Back from Contesting Bihar Elections
Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party and well-known election strategist, announced that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Kishor explained that the decision was made collectively by his party members. He said contesting would divert his focus from the crucial task of building and strengthening his organization ahead of the polls.
Party Decision Over Personal Ambition
Kishor said his team believed his energy was better spent ensuring the success of other Jan Suraaj candidates across Bihar. “The members of the party decided I should focus on helping our candidates win rather than contesting myself,” he told ANI. His statement comes amid growing anticipation over his potential debut from the Raghopur seat in Vaishali district.
Speculations were high that Kishor would challenge RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav from Raghopur, but the party surprised many by nominating local businessman Chanchal Singh instead. Speaking to PTI, Kishor said, “If I were to contest, it would have distracted me from important organisational work,” Kishor told PTI. The party’s choice has a broader goal: establishing Jan Suraaj at the local level.
Kishor emphasized that his priority remains transforming Bihar’s governance. He pledged a strong crackdown on corruption and promised to confiscate illegal assets of the “100 most corrupt politicians and bureaucrats” within one month of forming the government. He also vowed to end the “bogus prohibition policy” and tackle the land, sand mining, and other mafias that plague the state.
Building a Long-Term Political Movement in Bihar
Since launching the Jan Suraaj Party in October 2024, Kishor has focused on building a people-driven political movement. Despite opting out of the electoral race, he remains confident in his party’s prospects. “We’re here not just to contest elections but to change Bihar’s politics forever,” Kishor said, reinforcing his vision for a transparent and development-oriented state.
