Zomato, Labour Ministry partner to boost employment
The Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with online food delivery platform Zomato to increase access to flexible, technology-enabled jobs through the National Career Service (NCS) Gate. The collaboration is expected to create around 2.5 lakh jobs annually, empowering India’s gig workers and formalising digital employment opportunities for youth and women across the country.
NCS portal to strengthen India’s job ecosystem
Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has stressed that the NCS Gate, launched in 2015, has emerged as a vital link between job seekers and employers in India and abroad. The platform has previously created over 7.7 crore vacancies and continues to play a key role in connecting millions of people to meaningful and stable livelihoods in various sectors, including gig and tech-enabled spaces.
Mandaviya said the collaboration with Zomato will help integrate the platform’s frugality component within the formal employment framework. The move will provide structured access to digital jobs and ensure job security and recognition for gig workers and delivery companions. The collaboration reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to expand flexible, technology-driven livelihoods across the country.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje stressed that the agreement is in line with the Pradhan Mantri Uddan Bharat Rojgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) and the public vision of Uddan Bharat 2047. She stressed the need for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to ensure inclusive growth, social protection and formalisation for workers in both the organised and unorganised sectors across India.
Zomato to list 2.5 lakh vacancies annually on NCS
Under the new ‘Aggregator’ mandate, Zomato will post around 2.5 lakh flexible livelihood positions every time on the NCS gate. These listings will provide real-time income streams for delivery partners and gig workers, providing access to fair and structured work options. The collaboration aims to increase transparency, improve work quality and ensure fair earning opportunities in the gig sector.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has previously partnered with 14 leading companies including Amazon, Swiggy, Rapido, Zepto, Apna.co, HireMee and TeamLease. Together, these collaborations have created over five lakh employment opportunities across the country. The new alliance with Zomato will add impetus to this growing ecosystem, bridge the gap between job seekers and digital savers and support India’s rapid-fire pool transformation.
