PM Modi to Host UK PM Keir Starmer in Mumbai

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will make his first official visit to India on October 8 and 9 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders will meet in Mumbai on October 9 at 10 am to strengthen bilateral relations and review ongoing initiatives under the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership aimed at boosting trade, innovation, and defence collaboration.

Following their meeting, Prime Ministers Modi and Starmer will participate in the CEO Forum at the Jio World Centre around 1:40 pm, followed by the sixth edition of the Global Fintech Fest at 2:45 pm. Both leaders are scheduled to deliver keynote speeches highlighting their shared vision of fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth across financial and technological sectors in both countries.

Focus on Strengthening the Vision 2035 Roadmap

The two leaders will review the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership under the Vision 2035 roadmap. This 10-year plan covers cooperation in trade, investment, technology, defence, climate, energy, health, education, and cultural exchanges. The Prime Minister’s Office said the discussions will focus on measurable outcomes, ensuring long-term collaboration between both nations to support inclusive growth and strengthen bilateral strategic relations.

Modi and Starmer will also meet business leaders to assess the opportunities created by the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a cornerstone of the future India–UK economic partnership. The leaders will discuss ways to enhance trade flows, investment channels, and job creation. Regional and global issues, including geopolitical challenges and innovation-driven growth, will also feature prominently in their discussions.

The sixth edition of the Global Fintech Fest 2025, hosted in Mumbai, will gather policymakers, central bankers, investors, and innovators from over 75 countries. Organisers expect over 100,000 participants, including 7,500 organisations, 800 speakers, 400 exhibitors, and 70 regulators. The event will serve as a global platform for financial innovation and technology-driven economic transformation, strengthening India’s leadership in the global fintech ecosystem.

Keir Starmer’s maiden visit to India follows his July 2025 meeting with PM Modi, where both leaders celebrated the signing of the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. The Ministry of External Affairs said the pact will elevate the strategic partnership to new heights by enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and job creation while positioning India and the UK as key partners in global economic cooperation.
