Jose Martinez Pirri named Honorary President of Real Madrid
Following a unanimous decision at the Extraordinary General Assembly, which took place in person and virtually at the Real Madrid City basketball pavilion, Jose Martinez Pirri was proclaimed Honorary President of Real Madrid. The Representative Members gave the Madrid great a standing ovation.
“Amancio exemplified everything that Real Madrid is and what our crest represents for millions of people who respect our history,” Florentino Perez said in honor of Amancio and Pirri. He, along with our first honorary president of Real Madrid, Alfredo Di Stefano, and his successor, Paco Gento, will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

“And today, as we say goodbye to Amancio Amaro and express our gratitude for everything he has contributed, the Board of Directors of Real Madrid puts forward to this Special Assembly the nomination of one of the greatest legends in our club to take his place.” “For his dedication, his commitment, his humility, his humility, his exemplary conduct and for a lifetime defending our shirt, I propose today, on 11 November 2023, Jose Martinez Pirri as the new honorary president of Real Madrid.”
Pirri embodies positivity on and off the field
“He played for Real Madrid for 16 seasons after making his debut for the team at the age of 19. He scored 172 goals in 561 official games. The first player to obtain Santiago Bernabeu’s Laureada was Pirri.” “Pirri has consistently been a positive role model, both on and off the field.
His likeness perfectly captured the essence of the DNA that makes us Madridistas: never give up and give it your all till the very end. With remarkable talent and a winning mindset, he embodies the essence of what Real Madrid has been and will continue to be for the next 121 years, setting an example for his teammates.”
“He secured 10 league titles and 4 Copa de Espana trophies, leading the team to clinch their Sixth European Cup. This achievement was attained alongside Amancio and Paco Gento in the unforgettable Heysel final against Partizan Belgrade, a moment we have already commemorated in this assembly.”
He proceeded to the exit. I turned to face my older teammates and stated, “He told me I’m playing tomorrow.” And I did indeed play. That was, as it is today, one of the most significant days of my life—my first game wearing a Real Madrid shirt, versus Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.”
Pirri said that, “My family and I are enjoying a fantastic day together today. I want to start by expressing my gratitude to the Real Madrid board of directors and our club president, Florentino Perez, for making this historic news. Of course, I also want to express my gratitude to all of the Real Madrid players and spectators for their support and affection during my athletic career. Many thanks for it.”
