Mamata Banerjee Visits Injured BJP MP Khagen Murmu in Siliguri

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, paid BJP MP Khagen Murmu a visit at a Siliguri private hospital on Tuesday. Murmu, who represents Maldaha Uttar in the Lok Sabha, is being treated for injuries sustained during an attack in Nagarkata while visiting flood and landslide-hit areas of north Bengal. Banerjee’s hospital visit was captured on camera, showing her interacting with doctors and hospital staff.

CM Assures Medical Support and Speedy Recovery

Mamata Banerjee personally reviewed Murmu’s medical reports and assured him of complete support from the state government. Speaking to reporters, she said, “I have received all inputs. His blood sugar level is high and must be controlled.” The Chief Minister wished the BJP leader a speedy recovery, adding that the administration would ensure he receives the best possible treatment and care during his recovery.

Details of the Attack in Nagarkata

Khagen Murmu was attacked on Monday by unidentified miscreants while interacting with locals in a disaster-hit area of Nagarkata. BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh was also reportedly assaulted during the same incident. After meeting Murmu, Banerjee declared, “There is nothing serious. He is under observation because of high diabetes and a minor injury behind his ear. The police are investigating the circumstances of the attack.

Mamata Banerjee’s Interaction With Murmu’s Family

During her visit, Mamata Banerjee spent several minutes speaking with Khagen Murmu’s wife and son, asking about his health, medications, and treatment plan. According to hospital sources, she also inquired gently, “Do you have diabetes? Are you taking insulin regularly?” The Chief Minister assured Murmu’s family of any further medical help or treatment if needed, stating that the state government would extend all possible assistance.

Political Row and Accusations Erupt

The assault has triggered a major political storm in West Bengal. The BJP accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating the attack, while the TMC dismissed the allegations, claiming BJP leaders were merely creating a “photo opportunity” in flood-hit zones. The West Bengal BJP appreciated Banerjee’s hospital visit but criticized the administration for failing to arrest the culprits even after 24 hours of the incident.

War of Words Between BJP and TMC Intensifies

The controversy escalated after Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, calling it “outright appalling” and a sign of a poor law and order situation in Bengal. In response, Mamata Banerjee accused the PM of politicizing a natural disaster. The tension comes as north Bengal reels from floods and landslides that have claimed at least 30 lives, worsening the ongoing political standoff between the BJP and TMC.
