Massive AWS outage causes global internet outage
A major outage on Amazon Web Services (AWS) on October 20 caused widespread internet outages, affecting popular platforms and apps around the world. Companies including Confusion AI, Coinbase, and Robinhood have confirmed that their systems were down due to an AWS infrastructure issue. The outages primarily began in the US-East- 1 region, one of AWS’s most important data capitals, resulting in silence and connection failures worldwide.
According to Downdetector, outages have spread across several top services. Platforms affected include Amazon Alexa, Prime Video, Snapchat, Roblox, Ring, and Fortnite. Financial services like Venmo, Chime, and Coinbase have also experienced availability issues. In fact, popular games like Clash Royale and Clash of Clans have experienced connection failures. Thousands of addicts have reported login failures, delayed responses, and multiple biases and strong defenses across platforms.
AWS has verified “increased error rates and latency” across multiple services in the US-East-1 region. The masterminds found the root cause of a DNS-related issue affecting DynamoDB API endpoints, which caused a chain reaction in Pale-hosted apps. The company said mitigation is underway and has shown early signs of recovery, although residual issues may persist as backlogs on dependent systems clear.
Amazon’s engineering platoon said it is working hard to restore service and is advising retries for failed requests. Recovery efforts are underway with the Resemblance system to stabilize performance across all affected platforms. While AWS reports signs of improvement, drugs may experience temporary outages. The outage highlights the global reliance on AWS’s cloud infrastructure, which powers thousands of critical businesses and entertainment operations worldwide.
