Big Alert for 31 lakh farmers in Pradhan Mantri Kisan 21st Investment

The Government of India has issued an important update on the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (Pradhan Mantri Kisan) Yojana. With the 21st investment time approaching, around 31 lakh farmers may lose their benefits due to failure in eligibility verification. The authorities have launched a citizen verification drive to remove the names of ineligibles from the list ahead of the release of the upcoming ₹ 2,000 crore investment.

This large-scale verification is being carried out as part of the government’s ongoing drive to eliminate fraud and ensure transparency. A similar practice was followed during the 20th investment when thousands of payments were withheld for suspicious details. The latest update ensures that the benefits will be transferred only to those fair and eligible farmers whose documents and land tenure records meet the necessary conditions.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana, only one member of the family can receive financial assistance. However, one of them will be declared ineligible, if both the husband and the wife are registered as heirs. The report found that around 31.01 lakh ambiguous entries were made where both the wives were making payments. The government has initiated the process of removing these ambiguous names to ensure fair distribution.

Important Eligibility Rule 2 Farmers must be 18 years of age or above

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana is only for adult farmers who are 18 years of age or above. Any account registered in the name of a minor will be automatically disqualified. The verification report found that around 1.76 lakh accounts were linked to people below the age limit, which led to their inactivation before the upcoming investment was credited.

Another important criterion is land tenure. Only farmers who owned agricultural land before February 1, 2019 are eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan facility. Those who purchased land after this date will not be eligible for financial assistance. Based on this rule, more than 8 lakh farmers could be excluded from the active DEVC list at this verification stage.
