A massive fire broke out at the wet sector of Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this fall, forcing authorities to suspend all flight operations. According to officials, the fire broke out near Gate No. 8 at around 230 pm.

Fire Service Nabi Talha Bin Jasim said more than 30 firefighting units have reached the spot to bring the fire under control.

Emergency brigades from multiple forces at the spot

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) confirmed that immediate emergency measures have been taken. Brigades from the Bangladesh Navy, Air Force and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have joined the firefighters in extinguishing the fire. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that two firefighting units from the Air Force and two BGB teams have been deployed to assist in the operation.

Due to the fire, all arrivals and departures at Dhaka Field have been suspended until further notice. Several incoming breakouts were diverted to Chittagong and Sylhet, while some intercity routes from metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Sharjah were diverted. An IndiGo flight from Delhi was also diverted to Kolkata, officials said.

Officials confirmed that all aircraft at the field were safe and no casualties were reported. Biman Bangladesh Airlines and CAAB Nabi Kawsar Mahmood advised passengers to remain calm as emergency operations continued. He added that a full investigation would be conducted to determine the cause once the fire was fully brought under control.

This is the third major fire incident in Bangladesh in a week. Earlier, separate fires at the Chittagong Export Processing Zone and a warehouse in Dhaka resulted in multiple casualties and serious damage to property. Authorities are now examining whether repeated security lapses and poor firefighting measures contributed to these recurring tragedies.
