Zomato and Labour Ministry Partner to Boost Employment

The Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with online food delivery platform Zomato to enhance access to flexible, technology-enabled jobs through the National Career Service (NCS) portal. The collaboration is expected to create nearly 2.5 lakh job opportunities annually, empowering India’s gig workforce and formalising digital employment opportunities for youth and women across the country.

NCS Portal Strengthens India’s Job Ecosystem

Union Labour Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted that the NCS portal, launched in 2015, has emerged as a vital link between job seekers and employers both in India and abroad. The platform has already mobilised over 7.7 crore vacancies and continues to play a crucial role in connecting millions to meaningful and dignified livelihoods in various sectors, including emerging gig and tech-enabled roles.

Dr Mandaviya stated that the partnership with Zomato will help integrate platform economy roles into the formal employment structure. This move will provide structured access to digital jobs and ensure that gig workers and delivery partners benefit from greater job security and recognition. The collaboration reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to expanding flexible, technology-driven livelihoods nationwide.

Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje emphasized that the agreement aligns with the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) and the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. She stressed the need for collective efforts from all stakeholders to ensure inclusive growth, social protection, and formalisation for both organised and unorganised sector workers across India.

Zomato to List 2.5 Lakh Opportunities Annually on NCS

Under the new ‘Aggregator’ category, Zomato will post around 2.5 lakh flexible livelihood opportunities every year on the NCS portal. These listings will offer real-time income avenues for delivery partners and gig workers, providing access to verified and structured job options. The collaboration aims to boost transparency, improve job quality, and ensure fair earning opportunities in the gig sector.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has already partnered with 14 leading organisations, including Amazon, Swiggy, Rapido, Zepto, Apna.co, HireMee, and TeamLease. Together, these collaborations have generated over five lakh employment opportunities nationwide. The new alliance with Zomato adds momentum to this expanding ecosystem, bridging the gap between job seekers and the digital economy while supporting India’s rapid workforce transformation.
