BLOs Face Election Commission Action in West Bengal
The Election Commission of India( ECI) has issued show- cause notices to over 1,000 Booth Level Officers( BLOs) across West Bengal for failing to misbehave with sanctioned electoral directives. According to sources, these officers did n’t assume their duties on time despite multiple monuments. The commission’s notice emphasizes that similar negligence violates the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and correctional action may follow.
The reclamation process for BLOs in West Bengal began in April 2025. still, several officers reportedly ignored instructions to complete obligatory enrollment on the ERO- NET gate, indeed after repeated monuments from Electoral Registration Officers( concupiscence). Under Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, officers involved in electoral work must follow all Election Commission directives without exception. Each Booth Level Officer has been given three days to submit a written explanation for theirnon-compliance. The notices advise that failure to respond within the deadline will be considered as having no valid defense, and correctional or legal action will follow as per law. The ECI has reiterated that the integrity and promptitude of BLOs are critical for maintaining the translucency of electoral processes in West Bengal.
The Election Commission has initiated a two- day public meeting with Chief Electoral Officers and their deputies from all countries, banning Bihar. The West Bengal situation is anticipated to admit detailed discussion as part of sweats to insure error-free namer list updates. The Commission has espoused a strict station to maintain fairness and compliance in all electoral medications across India.
