BCCI Accuses Mohsin Naqvi of Taking Asia Cup Silverware
After India’s thrilling Asia Cup final win over Pakistan, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia alleged that ACC chairman and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi walked away with the trophy and medals. Saikia clarified that while India had chosen not to accept the silverware from Naqvi, it did not give him the authority to carry it away. He demanded the immediate return of the items and termed the incident “unsporting” and “unfortunate.”
ICC Protest to be Raised Next Month
Saikia confirmed that BCCI will escalate the matter at the ICC conference in November, stressing that such behavior cannot be ignored. The controversy surfaced after Team India refused the presentation, leading to a major post-match dispute. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team on social media with a celebratory message, praising India’s dominance against Pakistan. The episode has heightened tensions between cricket boards yet again.
Reiterating the Indian board’s stance, Saikia emphasized that BCCI follows the Government of India’s stand on playing against Pakistan. For over a decade, India has avoided bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan, citing policy and national security. However, the government-mandated rule allows participation in multinational tournaments to avoid international bans. As a result, India competes against Pakistan only in ICC and ACC events, but never in standalone tours or bilateral cricket series.
